At FastFit Autocentres in Long Eaton, Nottingham you can choose from premium brands such as Michelin, Pirelli, Goodyear and Bridgestone to the best of the budget brands from the likes of Rapid, Constancy and Landsail. You can choose the tyres to suit your budget and your motoring needs. Whether you drive a smart car or a supercar at FastFit Autocentres we can provide the tyres to suit.

Why do I need to change my tyres?

The most common reason to replace your tyres is the tread depth. In the UK the law requires your car tyres to have a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm in a continuous band around the central three quarters of the tyre, below this and you are risking a £2,500 fine and 3 penalty points per Tyre!

Most tyre manufacturers will mould tread bars into the tyres at roughly 1.6mm. When these bars are visible it is time to change your tyres. Along with most manufacturers FastFit Autocentres recommend that your tyres are changed at a tread depth of 3mm. A tread depth of 1.6 millimetres in wet weather means it takes an extra two car lengths (8 metres) to stop at 50 mph than if your tread was 3 millimetres.

When you check your tyre pressures which should be at least every two weeks, and always before long journeys, you should also be checking your tyres for any of the following:

  • Cracks and Splits in the Sidewall
  • Blisters and Slits
  • Vibrations whilst driving
  • Weird Noises

If there is evidence of any of these then it may be time to get new tyres.

Also if any of your tyres are over 5 years old you should consider replacing them. You can find the age of your tyres by looking for the DOT markings on the side. These give you the week and year that your tyres were made.
